The Bigger Splash - new programme for international book marketers

These days, challenges for marketers in the publishing industry are huge. Traditional distribution channels are changing, B2B marketing needs to be done in a much more sophisticated manner. And for many professionals it is all about finding new ways of driving consumer campaigns – without having the budgets of big consumer companies! At the same time, possibilities for dialogue and marketing tools are as diverse as never before!

For this reason, Frankfurter Buchmesse wants to provide systematic marketing knowledge exchange and established a new marketers network for the publishing industry on an international level!

“The Bigger Splash” is the

  • new compact programme for German and international marketers and communication professionals at #fbm
  • first step towards a larger network of marketing and communication professionals in the international book industry
  • an inspiring project for everyone who is interested in new ways of doing marketing and customer dialogue in times of rapid change

The Programme 2017

Despite collating the most important best-practice events for marketers, "The Bigger Splash" in 2017 offered a series of capsule programmes, customized to the needs of today’s marketing professionals. From Friday afternoon until Sunday 12 pm professionals met and mingled with and learned from some of the most important Marketing experts from in- and outside the publishing industry.

Friday, 13 October 2017

  • 4 pm – 4.30 pm, Business Club Meeting Area, Foyer 4.0
    High Tea in the Business Club: High Tea in the Business Club: Interested people met three outstanding Marketing professionals from the publishing industry and discussed the numerous possibilities of event marketing. With: James Ardinast (Culinary Entrepreneur at IMA), Sandra Riesenbeck (Head of Marketing Campaigning & Website Sales eCommerce & Marketing at Thalia) and Katja Böhne (Vice President Marketing & Communications at the Frankfurter Buchmesse).

  • 4.30 pm – 5.30 pm, Business Club Counter, Foyer 4.0
    Guided tour: People could join for a guided tour through the fair grounds. They could visit four of the most impressive stands and had the chance to get into conversation with the Marketing Directors in charge. The tour was led by Katja Böhne, Vice President Marketing, Frankfurter Buchmesse and our Fair architect Ursula Fescke. They have visited the stands of Wiley, TASCHEN Verlag, Indiecon and Pavilion Books.

    ORBANISM AWARD: Ceremonial event for the prize for the most effective events and live marketing campaigns in the German publishing and media industry.

  • 10.00 am – 12 pm, Hot Spot Digital Innovation, Hall 6.2 D 53
    Networking breakfast: Three inspiring marketing professionals from in- and outside the publishing industry shared their experience during this lively networking Breakfast. The marketing experts Jürgen Kaube (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) and Frank Vogel (Gruner + Jahr) shared their experiences. And Kristian Cost-Zahn (UFA-LAB) presented a transmedia approach to audience development and customer outreach.

    Influencer marketing for publishers: three marketing experts presented their strategies, followed by a panel discussion on the topic of credibility. The speakers were Sarah Kübler (Managing Director of HitchON), Sebastian Niemann (blogfoster GmbH), and Björn Wenzel (Founder and CEO of Lucky Shareman). At a small reception following the presentation, all participants had the chance to network and exchange ideas. The event was held in German.
